Today is the start of Daylight Savings Time. Pffft. I hate DST. I resent having that hour stolen from me, and I remain displeased until it is returned to me…in November. Bad enough that we have to go on this, it has been shown to be unproductive and dangerous, but some yo-yo at the top has decreed that we peons must endure it….and it gets worse every year, as the Americans stretch it out, and we copy them. At least this DST morning, I woke feeling rested for a change. I’m giving some credit to this honey lavender drink.

I’ve been trying to change my sleeping habits, and for the past 10 nights, I’ve been forcing myself to go to bed before 11 pm. Most of those nights, I get into bed and lie there with my eyes shut, not sleeping. It usually takes a while…often an hour or so before I fall asleep. I’ve tried tensing and relaxing muscles, deep breathing, shallow breathing, yawning…nada.

A few nights ago, I thought it might be worthwhile to try ingesting some lavender before going to bed, as lavender is supposed to have a soporific affect. Thought about combining it with green tea, but thought the caffeine would counter it. So, I decided to mix it with milk. The effect was tasty, but seemed effective…I went to sleep fairly quickly.  It may have been psychosomatic, I don’t really care:)

I mixed:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon dried lavender flowers
  • 1 teaspoon honey

in a measuring jug and heated it in the microwave for 1 1/2 minutes. Then I let it sit for another 3 minutes. It was delicious.

If you try this, let me know if it worked for you.
